I’m just gonna put it out there that “For Once In My Life” is one of my favorite songs of all songs, and therefore I hope it it won’t be mistreated in this episode. Having Kevin sing it is a good start, though!
just checked my dash and clearly, i missed something while i was gone.
i’m gonna try to stay clear of any remaining spoilers that come out between now and the episode. i can’t watch it till the weekend, anyway.
just remember, all: keep calm, cause klaine is endgame :)
This is bigger than Teenage Dream. This is bigger than Baby It’s Cold Outside. There’s no pop or platonic pretense.
This is pure romance and promises and love — an iconic song representing a declaration of love unbound by time, space, or circumstance.
We’re going to see on prime time, network television what you usually only occasionally see in a Broadway show or premium channels or day time soaps. Two boys are going to confess their undying love and commitment to one another. Furthermore, if those groups that always rear their ugly, homophobic heads anytime there’s any semblance of progress have something to say about it, it’s just going to make their hate obvious because there will be nothing salacious about this, nothing outrageous, nothing “inappropriately” sexual. This will be love.
“Come what may. I will love you until my dying day.” Those words, often sang at wedding ceremonies, a convention still not universally extended to all those who love, will be sang by two boys, to each other. That thought alone brings tears to my eyes because I know somewhere, on that night, a little boy who’s been questioning and wondering will sit in front of his TV and get the answer he’s been hoping for but still hadn’t let himself believe—yes, that kind of love is possible for you too.
Glee has promised and proclaimed to be a lot of things. When they fail to deliver, I’m one of the most vocal critics. But I’m also ready and willing to praise Glee when they get it right, and Come What May has that potential. Nothing normalizes love like normal depictions of love. I hope that’s what we see on March 7th. Because that’s the Glee I signed up for, and that’s the Glee I want back, because that’s the Glee a little boy somewhere needs.
